Marlene, you meant, and mean, so much to the many people whose lives you touched. To me, you were another grandmother and the (indescribably much) better half to our dancing duo. From the Friday afternoon catch ups that you, Dave, Matt and I used to have- which usually involved a hearty supply of chilli and Jaffa Cakes- to the endless parties, that we invariably ended up dancing our signature routine (Dirty Dancing's Time of My Life) at. You were there for the whole of my life, and I am so grateful for it. There are, obviously, so many memories that I hold with you. However, there are a couple that absolutely cannot and should not go without mention. One of the happiest, was my nineteenth birthday. Matt and I had gone up the Royal Oak for a few pints (as was usual), and were trying to get everyone together, to head up the pub. So, we called you and Dave, and as fast as the number nine bus could carry you both, you were there. You treated me as family, and I can never forget that. I can't remember the first time we danced to Time of My Life. However, what I can recall, is that it became an immovable expectation at every party thereafter. I have never felt responsibility like lifting you for that famous lift, at your eightieth birthday party, before. But, you pulled it off in style, to rapturous applause. Now that you're not around, I'm not sure my dancing shoes will get quite the number of outings that they used to. Oh, but you are still here; in everything everyone who knew you does, says and are, you will be there every step of the way.
